– Prints made by Max Dupain –
A wide range of hand prints, primarily in Max’s traditional 16×20″ Ilford photographic paper format, are available for purchase. There are also quite a few ‘test’ prints made, mostly around 30cm high/wide, made by Max in the 1980s, that are available for a more affordable price.
These prints were given to his studio manager, Jill White, mostly during the 1970s and 1980s. She has stored these eversince. Most are in excellent condition although there are age related blemishes in several. Some are mounted but most are stand alone prints. Prices are mostly between $1200 and $5000. Test prints are priced from $330. Prices, format, presence of signature, and availability confirmed upon enquiry.
Max’s first employer was in 1930 with the Sydney commercial photographer, Cecil Bostock, an English pictorialist photographer. He provided the young Max the practical technical skills of photography. The following images are of framed prints made by Max’s studio manager, Jill White, who was asked to print these from the negatives held by Bostock family. There are no titles of the prints but the negatives were produced when Bostock was still living in England in the early 1900s. These hand prints are in good condition and framed. Henry King (7 March 1855 – 22 May 1923) was an English-born Australian photographer, known for his studies of Australian Aboriginal people and his views of Sydney. King was one of Australia’s most significant early photographers. We have a very rare vintage print made in 1880 by King. It is in excellent condition, framed, signed with a letter of provenance.
